Today on Prada & Pearls I wanted to share my botox experience!  Botox/Dysport is becoming an increasing popular wrinkle relaxant treatment, given how non-invasive it is.  With that said however, getting any sort of new treatment done to your face can be intimidating!  That’s why I wanted to share my entire experience so you know what to expect.

I recently headed to SkinSutra Med Spa in Oakville to get my wrinkle relaxant treatment done by the amazing Isha.  Check out their Instagram here for photos and treatment information @skinsutramedispa.  If you’re in the Toronto region, I highly recommend checking them out.  They have everything from facials (vampire facial) to body contouring treatments!

Dysport vs Botox

At SkinSutra they inject Dysport instead of Botox.  Both are an injectable neurotoxin that block muscle contractions that lead to fine lines and winkles.  Dysport and Botox are incredibly similar, they are both made of botulinum.  Dysport typically gives you faster results, with patients noticing a difference in 2 – 3 days. Results typically last the same amount of time when it comes to Dysport vs Botox, but can vary person to person.

Pre-Prep

There are a couple of things you can do before your appointment to help with brushing and swelling!

  1. DO NOT TAKE/DRINK alcohol, caffeine, ibuprofen, aspirin, and fish oil supplements for at least 24 – 48 hours BEFORE your initial appointment
  2. Schedule you’re appointment at least 2 weeks before you would like to see full results
  3. Avoid wearing makeup on the injection site when you attend your appointment

Appointment Time!

To kick of my appointment I had a consultation with Isha to determine where I wanted the winkle relaxant treatment.  She also wanted to know if I had any concerns she could help me with!

Next I signed all of the paperwork!

After my consultation I decided to have Dysport injected into my brow and forehead.

To finish off my consultation, we took before photos to be able to have something to compare to.

Time for the injections

Before anything was injected Isha, disinfected the area.

Next she had me frown so she could mark with a makeup pencil where the injections would be placed.

Injection Time

Next it was time for the actual injections.  They provide you with a stress ball you can squeeze while the procedure is happening!  The amount of injections depends on the person.  It can vary depending on the shape and size of the area you would like to treat.

Here are some common questions:

1) Does it hurt?

Plain and simple you are injecting a needle into your face so yes there is some slight pain.  However on a scale from one to ten it’s a four for me.  It also doesn’t last long and the pain incredibly manageable!  I would 100% get this procedure done again and the pain was not a deterring factor for me.

2) How long does the procedure last for?

This depends on the person and how many injections you’ll receive but on average only 10 -15 minutes.

3) Will you bleed?

I had slight bleeding and redness however it went away after a couple of hours.  Try to avoid caffeine and alcohol 48 hours before your procedure to reduce this from happening.

After Care

After care is so important!  Most people experience some slight redness right after the injections however that will disappear after a couple of hours.

Once you’re treatment is done you need to be incredibly careful so that the neurotoxin does not move.  Here are some of the recommended things to do after the injections:

1) Do not manipulate the area for 3 hours following treatment

2) Do not receive facial/laser treatment or microdermabrasion after injections for at least 10 days

3) Do not lie down for 4 hours after your treatment

4) Do not perform activities involving straining, heavy lifting or sweating for at least 6 hours after treatment

A lot of these are to prevent the botox and or Dysport to move from the injection site, which can cause dropping eyelid or other adverse effects.  These are INCREDIBLY important to follow!

As always consult your doctor or healthcare professional before receiving any sort of medical treatment, to determine if it’s right for you.  I am in no way shape or form a medical professional.

My Botox Experience Results!

A) Forehead

Here are the results my botox experience results for my forehead!  In both photos I’m raising my eyebrows:

B) Brow

Here are the results of my brows.  In both photos I’m frowning:

I am incredibly happy with my experience.  The Dyspot has smoothed out all of the fine lines on my forehead and brow line, while still looking natural!

If you’re considering getting botox or Dysport done, have a conversation with Skinsutra or a professional in your area to determine if it’s right for you!
