Fine Hair Types
Before we go into heat protectants, it’s important to understand what type of fine hair you have. A large misconception is that if you have fine hair it means you have thin hair which isn’t necessary true.
Thick Fine Hair
I have thick fine hair which means I have fine hair but I have a lot of it. This leads to matting, a lot of tangles and frizz. If I don’t brush my hair every day it leads to knotting (think rats nest). If you have hair like this you know the struggle. Anti-tangle products help a lot for this hair type along with anti-frizz. I wanted to share some holy grail products I use to help with my hair.
1) Wet Brush
This brush has helped me so much with my hair. The wet brush really makes brushing your hair so much easier especially if you have fine hair. It helps stops hair breakage and makes de-tangling really easy. They’re also incredibly affordable.
2) Silk Pillow Case

Using a silk pillow case can do wonders for your hair. I find most of my tangles and frizz comes at night. Using a silk pillow case creates less friction between your hair and the sheets which helps your hair stay in place.
Thin Fine Hair
If you have thin fine hair, volume is likely an issue for you. Reason being, you have fine hair but not a lot of it. Therefore when using hair products you need to make sure you don’t use too much, which can weigh the hair down. Additionally you want to focus on hair products that add volume at the root.
1) Revlon Volumizer Hot Air Brush

I’m sure you’ve heard of the Revlon volumizer hot air brush. I can say first hand it’s worth the hype. I purchased mine last year and absolutely love it. To get volume in my hair in the past I would have to blow dry my hair upside down. Now I just use this hot air brush and it gives the exact same effect while taming frizz.
2) Volumizing thickening Spray
I love using volumizing sprays on my hair to give some extra lift. This one is extremely highly rated for those with thin hair. It’s doesn’t leave the hair feeling greasy and gives you a nice lift at the root.
Tips for using a heat protectant
1) Be careful when brushing heat protectant out – Heat protectant should mainly be used at the ends of your hair. If you’re hair turns greasy after using protectant you got too much product on your roots which usually occurs when your brushing the protectant throughout your hair. Try and focus on the ends to reduce grease.
2) Don’t apply too much product – Less is more. If you have to much protectant on your hair it weighs the hair down which leads to hair breakage. Only use a dime size each time.
3) Do your research – A heat protectant that works for someone else might not work for you. Everyone’s hair is different so make sure you pick a protectant that solves your personal hair problems.
